Have you ever noticed how hard change is? One of the first obstacles to change is a lack of space. When life is crowded at every juncture – racing thoughts, jam-packed schedules, bodies that are physically exhausted, stressed and burdened by the hectic lives we lead – it’s nearly impossible to move towards what we desire. The system of yoga knows this dilemma is the first challenge many of us face. Step one on the Eight Limb Path, known as the Yamas, invites us to bring purposeful restraint to our energy and in doing so, open up space in our life for change. In the 5 week workshop we will focus each week on a different Yama. We’ll study the theory behind each of them based on their introduction in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, and we’ll discuss why and how they apply to us. This workshop is for anyone wanting to develop a broader understanding of yoga philosophy and how it guides the approach to asana as well as life off the mat.
